MARK STRUTHERS

Mark’s passion for horses goes way back, starting with riding lessons at the age of 10 and showing horses on the “A” circuit while based in London, Ontario. That passion for horses, and his fascination with the mechanics of their movement, led him to a career as a farrier, graduating with a 98% average from the Maryland Horseshoeing School in 2003.

Returning to Canada, this time to Ottawa, Mark spent time further honing his craft with top local farriers and building a business specializing in Hunters, Jumpers and therapeutic shoeing, including a contract shoeing horses for the RCMP Musical Ride.

Keeping current on new techniques and developments in horse podiatry is an important aspect of farrier work, and Mark was always striving to improve his work by attending farrier clinics and conventions. So in 2017 Mark co-founded the Eastern Ontario Farrier Association, a farrier group which fosters community and inspires education by hosting bi-monthly clinics for farriers. The EOF annual fund raiser, the “Block Party” raises money for local charities.

Mark has served as the Treasurer of the Ontario Farrier’s Association from 2018 to present.

Mark & Lauren have served as the head coaches of the University of Ottawa Equestrian Team from 2012 - present. His experience as a rider and trainer in the hunter jumper industry is invaluable helping him as a farrier to prepare horses for the highest level of the sport.

Mark is a travelling farrier who shoes hunters & jumpers across North American as they compete on the circuit.
